World Pilot Gig Championships

Since 1990, the Isles of Scilly have hosted the World Pilot Gig Championships in May each year, where crews from Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Somerset, Wales, Ireland, Holland, France, the Pharoe Isles & America compete for the title of World Champions! This fantastic, colourful, energetic and very friendly event has become something of a legend,within the rowing community, attracting more crews and supporters every year.
  The weekend comprises of 3 days of rowing, starting on the Friday evening with the vets races and continueing on Staurday and sunday with the main racing events. With all this high energy racing, you may think that the experiance would end on the Sunday, but many intrepid rowers, take part in either the Gig sailing, golf tournement or International rugby events on the Monday morning, & with the traditional singing off of the scillonian, sending many of the rowers back to the mainland, the World Pilot Gig Championships end in great style. It has become and hopefully will always stay one of the high points in the Scillonian and Gig rowing callendar.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MEDIA COVERAGE
Radio Scilly will be broadcasting the WPGC live across Scilly on 107.9FM and live on the web. This will mean that anyone on the mainland can follow the whole event, with interviews and commentary live from anywhere in the world.
