Countdown to IOS RFC vs The Mainland RC

The Mainland Rugby Club The Mainland Rugby Club was established in 1991, to play an annual rugby match on the Isles of Scilly. The annual match is played on the weekend of THE WORLD PILOT GIG CHAMPIONSHIPS, at the Garrison , St Mary's at approx 1030 hrs Bank holiday Monday. The Mainland team is made up of individuals from various Gig Clubs from around the world, with regular players from the USA, Brittany, South Africa, Wales, Devon & Cornwall. We always welcome new players on the weekend, you can play the whole match or as much as you like, beer and singing flow afterwards in great amounts at the Mermaid Pub and then on the quay singing off the Scillonian.
To date we have played matches against the IOS team made from Islanders only, and raising monies for local charities, organisations and individuals. 2009 Mainland WON!!! But lost the boat race after some very dodgy drinking from one individual from the scillies (no names)
In the summer of 2007 the Isles of Scilly lost 3 young men in the prime of life, Nathan Woodcock, Rob Morton & Adam Mallon, these were tragic events for the families the isles and all who knew the boys, we will never forget the happines and passion they brought to us all.

On October the 13th 2007 we had a Special Commemorative Rugby Match, well attended by Mainlanders and islanders alike. This year we raised monies for the RNLI and the families of the boys, To this end we sold Rememberance Bands at the World Championships 2008, the bands were in gold and green ( the island colours ) and cost £2 or a donation. They were sold at Pubs, shops and directly from the very attractive young ladies from Roseland and Pendeen Pilot Gig Clubs. Through this on the weekend we raised £1650 with more to come as we left some bands on the islands to sell across the summer. We finaly raised well over £3500. We very much appreciated your support across the weekend. Thank You!!!!!
