Hi Guys, well watching the sun break through the very few clouds on a spring morning over Mounts Bay was wonderful. I thought then it would be a great day of racing and i wasn't disapointed.
22 Gigs attended the event plus Lady Sue ( Plastic Gig ) i think a great turnout by anyones standards, but considering the scillies up and coming fast with a lot of boats being transported, i think it was wonderful.
The weather was kind enough to start with but with a strong off shore wind the conditions were less than easy for all who took part, making a lot of cox's push for the on shore side of the line next to the start boat. Being at the other end would mean an even harder row against the wind pushing the crews even harder to keep there hard fought positions.
The course held two bouys with the first leg being the longest, a hard turn saw the boats fly across the shorter second leg being helped along by the ever increasing winds. The second bouy saw a few clashes of boats with more than a few coming to almost a full stop, with more than a few very polite words being said by cox's and crews alike. After the second bouy the long dash for home, almost straight lining towards the Mount itself, with many boats pushing off hard from the bouy and many acry for a hard 10 or an extra pound.
The final leg saw most of the top boats expand there distance from the following pack, with Taran , Fury, Penarrow and Gallant fighting thorugh for a fantastic finish in the mens A.
Hopefully the final results will follow ( now on the results page) and anyone who would like to send some photos in or any comments i would be more than happy to publish them on the site.
The event was again, as in the past, was incredibly well run and organised. The Food ( especially the Bacon Baps) was fantastic! the racing was briliantly organised with umpires and safety boats doing there jobs perfectly witout exception.
As per normal with Mounts Bay, a great event well worth attending. I would just like to thank all involved in the running and organising of the event.
Got some photos of the event? send them in and i will be more than happy to place them on the site.
See you on the water.
