Hi All, Well what a start to the season!
A weekend of racing, starting on Sat at Appledore ( Blog and Pics to come in the next few days) and then the THREE RIVERS at Caradon.
The weather cleared late morning, to let the races have a clear run without rain or too much wind, leaving just one hell of a tide distance to battle with.
The turn out was spectacular with over 34 boats attending and clubs from as far afield as Falmouth and Weymouth! both clubs giving a damn good account of themselves.
The racing started with the Ladies, a hard fought fight being eventually quit convincingly won by Falmouth Ladies A, followed strongly by the Caradon Ladies A. These two teams seem to be incredibly well matched and i think this will make for one great season.
The Mens race started in two heats with a very inpressive line just under the Tamar Bridge. Holding the line wasn't easy with a very strong outgoing tide pushing them further and further back. I must praise all the boats Cox's and rowers and infact the starter boat, for giving us all a fantastic start, straight line and all!
The race was very hard fought all the way through, with Caradon mens A taking an early leed, with no more than a boats length in it, between Falmouth mens A holding there position and nerve!
The first two legs were very hard, with all the crews fighting hard against the oncoming tide and after the first turn almost side on too it. The second turn gives the crews a small rest bite, although in no way a rest! Going with the tide the boats flew down past Brunnels Bridge and towards the Lyner, at the third turn Falmouth attacked with incredible strength ( i have no idea were there found it ) but pulled back the boats length within minutes. Caradon countered the push but again with the oncoming tide, there strength couldn't hold the Falmouth boy's. I think if Caradon could't hold them off No one could. Falmouth pulled in front with amazing effort and Caradon held at no more than a boats length behind, to finish second with Falmouth B finishing strongly in third.
I must say it was a wonderfull event, and i can't praise ALL the crews & cox's enough for some amazing rowing effort!! The Three Rivers may be one of the first events of the season but will always remain one of the hardest and telling events of the year. Well done to all of you!! We have some pictures of the event on the gallery if anyone would like a look! Cheers Pilotgigs List of Full Results on our Events & Results Page
